Harlan County
Sheriff's Office

OATH
As your Sheriff, I took this oath in the presence of Almighty God and witnesses:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this Commonwealth, and be faithful and true to the Commonwealth of Kentucky so long as I continue a citizen thereof, and that I will faithfully execute, to the best of my ability, the office of Sheriff according to law; and I do further solemnly swear (or affirm) that since the adoption of the present Constitution, I, being a citizen of this State, have not fought a duel with deadly weapons within this State nor out of it, nor have I sent or accepted a challenge to fight a duel with deadly weapons, nor have I acted as second in carrying a challenge, nor aided or assisted any person thus offending, so help me God.
I, Leslie Smith, do swear that I will do right as well to the poor as to the rich, in all things belonging to my office as Sheriff, that I will do no wrong to any one for any gift, reward or promise, nor for favor or hatred, and in all things I will faithfully and impartially execute the duties of my office, according to the best of my skill and judgment so help me God.
As you can plainly see, I have sworn to uphold ALL of the Constitution of the United States. Not just part of it. This includes our second amendment rights to keep and bear arms.
