Steps for Applicants to Take in
Acquiring a License to Carry a
Concealed Weapon

1. Contact the Sheriff's Office to to identify Certified Instructors in Harlan county who are authorized to teach the required course.

2. Contact the instructor and enroll in the course.

3. After completing the course and receiving your certificate in the mail, bring it to the Harlan County Sheriff's Office along with the following:

A.                 DRIVERS LICENSE
B.                 SOCIAL SECURITY CARD OR SOMETHING WITH SS # ON IT.
C.                 $40.00 CHECK OR MONEY ORDER MADE OUT TO KENTUCKY STATE POLICE
D.                 $20.00 SHERIFF's OFFICE FEE
E.                 $3.00 PICTURE FEE

KSP REQUIRES THE $40.00 FEE BE CERTIFIED FUNDS BECAUSE WE
ARE MAILING THE APPLICATION TO FRANKFORT.

AFTER THE APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE IT WILL TAKE FOUR TO SIX WEEKS TO PROCESS.  YOU WILL THEN RECEIVE NOTIFICATION THROUGH THE MAIL STATING THE DATE YOU CAN PICK YOUR LICENSE UP FROM THE SHERIFFS OFFICE
